Daryl Johnson, AIA, President

Daryl is the founding partner at Johnson Architecture, Inc. and spearheads all of the firm's design efforts. He is an NCARB Certified Architect and maintains licenses for numerous states including Tennessee, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Montana.

He is an advocate of environmentally responsible design and believes that the best projects are those that have been ‘inserted’ into the landscape as an element, not placed as a statement.

By creating the firm’s mission statement of “Listen, then draw”, Daryl has fostered an environment within JAI of true collaborative design, one in which the firm’s designers serve as the conduit to bring the homeowner’s thoughts and dreams to reality. “My sincere hope is that we, as a firm, first, listen, and then act to accomplish our client’s needs. If we ever lose that perspective, it won’t be worth doing anymore.”

Kristin Grove, A.AIA

After completing her BA of Architecture degree program at the University of Tennessee, Kristin joined JAI in 1997 and has worked in every aspect of the architectural field. She excels as a “client manager” focusing on listening to the client’s wants and needs and providing solutions.

Although she thrives on the variety of project types that the company enjoys, residential design is her true passion.  “It is the personal connection that is developed with my clients that motivates me.  Getting to know how people want to live in their environment lets me experience a very intimate side of my clients' lives, which drives me to create the ultimate environment for them.”

Scott Harrop, AIA

Scott is a lead designer at Johnson Architecture and spearheads the design efforts on most residential projects. He is an NCARB certified architect and is licensed to practice in the state of Tennessee. Focusing on important issues such as client needs, budget, site characteristics and environmental impact, Scott creates clean, creative, yet simple design concepts to exhibit each client’s vision and personal style. Embracing the close relationship developed with his clients allows him insight into their daily lives and into the environment in which they feel most comfortable - the most at home. His goal is to always create spaces in which the homeowner can not only feel completely at ease, but that continue to inspire with each passing day.

Susan Ward, IIDA

Susan is one of several talented designers at Johnson Architecture and leads our residential interior design efforts. She is NCIDQ certified.

She has worked on numerous projects, both residential and commercial, that allow her to be a multi-dimensional residential designer with a vast knowledge of resources and tools. Layering of materials and texture, lighting design, and custom cabinetry are just some of the elements of design that are common focuses in her projects.

Susan feels that your home’s personal space should reflect who you are and how you plan for your family to interact with that space. Interiors should appear collected, not overly styled or fussy. For this reason, Susan’s designs do not reflect any particular style. Instead, she prides herself in taking cues from the client to complete a design that is uniquely their own.
